[aprssig] Mobile non-RF beacon rate?

Hi folks,

What sort of beacon rate is considered acceptable into APRS-IS, from mobile-but-non-RF clients?

I'm in an email chat with someone who runs an APRS client through his mobile phone. He's looking to upgrade to an TNC and radio for the RF side, but in the mean time is using his AT&T mobile phone Internet connection to get to APRS-IS. The question is what to set it to.

I know that RF-focused Mobile stations need to limit their activity because of the very limited bandwidth over the air. A phone-based data plan has no particular limit in this regard, but it would be poor practice to beacon too frequently into APRS-IS. What's considered a proper rate? (The client doesn't do Smart Beaconing.)

Thanks,

Greg KO6TH
