HI All
Stating the obvious here: Voice Alert works.
On Wednesday 9/23/09 I drove from Long Island to the TAPR DCC in
Chicago.
In my truck I have a D700 and a very old Garmin 45.
My D700 is setup for voice alert. That is I transmit my APRS packets
with PL100.

While driving along I was contacted by a driver of an 18 wheeler.
He "heard" my APRS packet so he knew that we where in simplex range.

We had a very nice short simplex conversation. As usually happens in
these cases he was going east on I80 and I was going west on I80.
Seems to happen to me all the time.

On Sunday 9/27/09 I drove home from Chicago to Long Island NY.
Yes you guessed it. I had another short simplex contact with the same
18 wheeler driver. Yes again we where going in opposite directions.

So just a shot story to point our that Voice Alert works very well.

Let us hope we never witness the "Silence Of The Hams"
