You should at least have a syntactically valid lat/lon in the kill 
packet, if you don't have the exact lat/lon of the "live" object. At 
least the parsers I have intimate knowledge of, won't process an object 
packet, dead or alive, if it doesn't contain a lat/lon.

Also if you have a generic lat/lon in the kill packet instead of the 
real location of the object, your kill packet might not make it to the 
area the object was located at, in the APRS-IS (due to location filters).
