Then do not fall into the trap of thinking APRS is for just one-way tracking devices. Those are not what APRS is about to the mobile operator. Trackers are for un-hammed objects for special events. But the other 99% of the time, an APRS mobile is supposed to see right there on his radio or GPS screen everything going on around him an dbe in 2-way communications with the network around him.

For mobile operations, you want the Kenwood TM-D710 radio which is a full function dual band mobile or base and also includes all of the APRS display and 2-way messaging functionality. When attached to the AVMAP-G5 GPS unit, it is the ultimate in APRS mobile. The color GPS displays all APRS icons of all surrounding stations just as well as any client software. SO just the radio and GPS are all you need.

Yes, the D710. What most people dont realize is that all of the APRS functionality, GPS, and display hardware is built into the DISPLAY HEAD itself. SO you can leave the radio in the car, and only bring the Display head indoors and plug it into the speaker and mic jack of ANY other radio, including a simple $90 HT in your office drawer, and you can continue to enjoy APRS at your desk!
