The first annual Appalachain Trail APRS message event is this
weekend.
See www.aprs.org/at-golden-packet.html

If you hike, get out to the AT and join in!

But if you live within 100 miles of the Appalachian Trial, you
should be able to monitor this event. You MUST NOT TRANSMIT
until authorized. Such monitoring stations may join the network
AFTER 3 PM after the golden packet attempts are complete (1 PM)
and after any hikers or other trails stations (2 PM).

In addition, you are welcome to build SECONDARY LINKS to extend
the experimental communications long distances to your EOC or
other emergency communications demonstration station following
the technique on this web page:
http://aprs.org/hamtrails/secondary.html

By operating these mnoitoring links SPLIT FREQUENCY +600, they
are effectively one-way outward until the 3 o'clock time frame,
when they can remove the offset and join the net.

The only site we are missing a team is Sam's Point in New York
state. If anyone can drive their D700 up there, it would sure
help. See www.aprs.org/hamtrails/sams-point.html

You can talk with your area site using the Voice Coordination
repeater listed on the web page for each site.

Nothing will appear on the APRS-IS or internet, since this is
an RF only event. There is a shared EchoLink conference node
for all participants.
