Mostly correct about the T2. The T2 doesn't need a G-Trans cable. I
*does* need either the Garmin specific data cable to adjust levels, or
one can be homebrewed using diodes and a couple of resistors. Details
about that are elsewhere in the list. The T2 does have the code in it
to speak with the Nuvi in native Garmin binary to use all the features
of the FMI that Scott has been able to implement, namely waypoint
display and two-way messaging. The Garmin cable for this that Scott
sells on his site is here:
Garmin 010-10813-00 Mini-B Data Cable

This cable is cheaper than the G-trans cable, but is only usable for
the Nuvi/T2 configuration. If you wish to using the Nuvi with a laptop
or other device, including the OT+, you will need a G-trans cable with
either the Kenwood connector or DB9, depending on your application.
This whole thing with the Nuvi's can be very confusing. You could use
a Nuvi with a G-trans cable to talk to a T2, but, unless I'm
mistaken, you would lose messaging capability in a Nuvi/T2 combination
by using a G-trans cable instead of a 10813 Data Cable.
Hopefully, the water isn't muddy more by this.
