[aprssig] APRS on UHF?

This question gets asked every few years. Some areas do have recognized UHF
frequencies for APRS (So. Cal is 438.975 for example). The problem is, the
UHF band plan varies widely in different parts of the country, and efforts
to standardize have always run into road blocks because of local band plan
incompatibilities.
