Unless I am missing something, I think I have to disagree with
the word "cannot transmit"...

My D7's all seem to work just fine indefiniately on the supplied
Kenwood WALL-WART charger.  Sure, they will not TX at 5W, but my
experience has been that they transmit just fine in EL power
mode on the supplied charger.
