Look into the Toshiba Tecra A9 series. We are presently recommending the
Tecra A9-S9015X. It includes XP Professional and a real RS-232 port.

We tested and reviewed the A9-S9013 previously. It ran Vista and had the
real
Serial port too. Aside from Vista not liking our Clifford alarm programming
SW, the serial port worked with everything else. They have since updated it
to the
A9-S9013X which includes XP Professional.

We tested with many applications, and under a variety of networking
conditions.
We ended up buying two of the Tecra A9-S9015X units.

Both laptops also support Bluetooth. When we were at CES last week we found
a "dongle" that attaches to the RS-232 port on a device (not on the laptop)
and
provides for Bluetooth connectivity to the device. The Bluetooth stack for
Windows
will allow for a Com Port to be assigned to a connection. We should have
some
for testing later this week, we will try them with some Uniden scanners, a
D700A,
a Cisco router, and some other devices to see how it works.
