Further thought:

I can envision this concept as either part of the next generation 
firmware for dedicated Weather-Trak-type devices

           -or-

if the alternate-path-option objects plugin for UIview discussed in 
another thread on this list was developed, it could be expanded to also 
incorporate variable rate/path weather beaconing.
