Hey Ben,

I am not sure what you mean by...  "lost their way and default back to 
Japan."

Sounds to me like your backup battery has died.

I bought 20 of the Aisin GPS boards back in 1998.

I still have 10 of them untouched.

I gave a couple away....   experimented with a couple...  and
a couple others went up in balloons.

I removed the actual GPS engines from the boards they were
on and also took the backup battery, power and antenna
connectors and heatsink from the original boards and mounted
them all on some perf board.

I then wrote some 8051 code to convert the Aisin binary output into
a couple different NMEA GPS strings.
