It looks like some of this is finally starting to
stick.
The bit about the Asterisk looks confusing, so I'll
have to digest your words carefully. However, it
looks like my description (_insert_ call and decrement
the appropriate "-1" then add the "*' when
appropriate) was echoed in your words.
So what's commonly referred to as "call sign
substitution" may be better described as: "call sign
insertion, with normal WIDEn-x decrementing [which
includes the -0 > "*" step].
