You have to edit the    *symbols.txt*   file  in the main UIview program 
directory.   To make a symbol overlayable, the symbol description column 
has to be prefixed with "No."  (note the period!) as in the abbreviation 
for "Number".  For example,  the fixed symbol digi star in the primary 
symbol set has the  description:

     "Digi"  

while the overlayable digi star in the secondary set has the description:

    "No. Digi"

When a symbol name prefixed with No. is selected in the station symbol 
dialog, the additional box for overlaying a character will ungrey.
