No one seems to have noticed my comment on limited distance of line of sight 
due to curvature of the earth.
See:  http://www.naval.com/sight/index.htm to calculate the distance between 
two stations.  The Great Lakes are pretty darn BIG. Frankly, I think you'd 
be darn lucky to get a signal to shore.
