Australia went down this path in the 1970's and at one stage it was 
illegal to sell things like measuring tapes carrying both metric and 
imperial measurments but that prohibition has since been dropped. 
Although the metric system predominates, particularly older people still 
tend to think in imperial terms. Litres per hundred kilometres still 
means nothing to me so I convert to MPG if I really need to know.
