Ever since Windows 95, Microsoft Windows has been able to automatically
adjust the computer system clock for daylight time each spring and fall.
Effective this year, U.S. Daylight Time will start 3 weeks earlier (1st
week of March instead of beginning of April), . As a result, the
automatic time change feature in Windows won't happen until 3 weeks
after the fact. As a result, files will be time-stamped with an error
of one hour for three weeks or more.
The patches below will fix Windows 2000 or XP to change on the new
earlier date.
Microsoft HAS offfered a patch for Windows XP but , as part of their
strategy of coercive forced upgrades, has refused to offer fixes for
earlier versions of Windows. There is no fix for Windows 95 /98/Me,
but there _is_ a fix for Windows 2000. Programmers in Europe, outside
the reach of the US Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DCMA) which makes
it a criminal offense to reverse-engineer software, have modified the
XP patcher to do the same thing for Windows 2000 . [ Interestingly,
after the "underground" 2K patch started surfacing, MS suddenly started
offering a 2K fix to corporate accounts for a mere $5000.00 !!! ]
To apply the daylight time fix to either Windows 2000 or Windows XP,
click the link below to download the appropriate file. After
downloading, locate the file in your download folder and double-click it
to install. *
Note that these patches immediately reboot the computer after
installing, no questions asked. Make sure no other files or documents
are open or unsaved before you run the patch !!*
