Just having the packages installed is not always enough for
ImageMagick. If the dependency list was not done properly for the
RPM packages, then your package manager may not install additional
packages that IM requires.
The easiest way to see what's going is to look at the config.log
file in the area where the IM tests are failing. You'll usually
find a warning or error there regarding a missing package.
If/when you find something like this, report it back to the IM
package maintainer so they can fix that dependency, in your case
SuSE.
_Your_ fix however will be to install that missing package, then
re-run configure, then if it fails again, check for another missing
package, ad naseum until it succeeds.
FWIW: I've run into similar problems with IM before, some of which
can be attributed to dependencies in the RPM package, some
attributed to the Magick-config script distributed with IM itself,
and other problems have derived from the code itself. IM has been
our most problematic package. I've switched to GraphicsMagick on
most of my boxes which is a somewhat better run project and a fork
of the ImageMagick code. Xastir will prefer GM over IM now if both
are installed on a box.
For those on the APRSSIG: I sent a note asking that such questions
be posted to software-specific mailing lists instead of here.
