Hi all,
Not sure if this is relevant (cell network would be slightly more
reliable than WiFi....for coverage anyway....)
At the beginning (a few months ago) when I was trying to understand
APRS and Xastir I tried tracking with GPRS/3G (when available).

It was surprisingly successful.
It was done with Xastir, a garmin etrex gps, a powerbook connected to
mobile phone network via bluetooth enabled mobile phone.
Hope its of interest.
