Well, there is definitely no heat to worry about this year! 

We currently (4:40 PM Pacific) have chains required in the mountain 
passes north of L.A. due to the rain and snow storm we had yesterday.  
(For those of you from the Midwest and Eastern flatlands, the California 
Highway Patrol mandates tire chains in the mountains and passes during 
and after severe weather,  and will actually stop and ticket cars 
without them) 

It's currently only 65 F in Pasadena and 71 in Las Vegas.....
