That is _exactly_ how I think of it!

That's pretty much how it works for my mobile.  With all the canyons
and hills/mountains around, we need these fill-in digi's in order to
provide better coverage for the mobiles/portables around here.

Another option is to run high-power from the mobiles.  That can help
the one individual to a point, but trashes everybody else on channel
that _might_ have gotten in otherwise.  Unfortunately the gains by
running high power are difficult to refute, so it takes a bunch of
education to get those users to back down again.  I was one of them
a few years back until I "saw the light".

The mobile can't always hear as well as it talks, due to vehicle
electrical system noise, computer noise, etc.  I find that I can
hear quite well if the engine is off, but not otherwise.  Perhaps
its just my particular installation though and others have better
luck while moving.  A sample of one is hard to do statistics on.
