I set mine to do one packet per 1.5 or 2.0 miles when going
straight, and to beacon on a turn of 22 degrees or more. I'm
sending out Base-91 posits.

The symbol and the beacon rates change to once per 7 minutes when
going less than 4mph. When parked I only get out 2 beacons or so
until the APO shuts everything down. If hiking with this unit I'd
get a fixed once per 7 minute rate.

Whether that's excessive beaconing, I don't know. Seems to put out
a decent track.
