I was along for the flight when a TH-D7 was used to issue the release 
command to a balloon at 80k feet, while we were traveling at 
undisclosed speeds chasing the balloon.

... and connected mode is easily a disaster on a balloon.  Datagrams 
are _much_ more appropriate.
