Rather than continue this debate, lets all focus on one thing
that is simple to accomplish and see if authors will step up
and consider implementing it.

1) As maps zoom, below the point where the ICON is smaller
than the ambiguity, please let the ICON begin to expand
at the same rate as the zoom.  THis is so that the viewer
is never misslead to an accuracy better than is available.
There are two sources of data about the ambiguity.
a) The APRS position ambiguity included in every packet
b) The programmers own knowledge about the accuracy
    of his map source.

2) Provide on the map display, a range scale or some other
legend that gives the user a clue as to the scale (in miles
or Kilometers) he is seeing.  The preferred system for this
is called RANGE SCALE and it means the approximate distance 
from  the center of the view to the closest edge.  In other
words, the largest circular range about the center point
that would fit on this map view.  This lets people with
totally different systems still refer to the same "area"
by only its CENTER and RANGE.

Just adding those two features to all map views would solve
most of the complaints about on-line and some applications
display of APRS on maps.
