I think one glitch was that if for some reason the aprs2 server that
the script looks for is inaccessible for some reason, the script
'hangs' until it eventually times out. While it is 'stuck' waiting for
a response, not much else happens, so the PC appears to have frozen.
Making sure that the script looks for "rotate.aprs2.net" should help,
as it should find a reachable server, and also running the script in
the background so it doesn't delay other IRLP processing, e.g. adding
a '&' at the end of the script's line calling aprs_status script.

There maybe some other bit(s) of relevant information, and/or
something I've missed which I can't find it right at this point in
time... maybe someone else can chip in. (Or better yet, upload a
debugged script to
