I generally refer to 'em all as APRS clients or APRS applications,  
since they're generally at the application layer of the good ol' OSI  
reference model.

tracker = transmit only client
anti-tracker = receive only client
D7/D700/Tracker2 = client implemented in hardware

... and of course, your favorite APRS application is a client  
implemented in software.

Differentiating between the APRS application and the TNC even when  
both live in the same hardware seems to help folks who are trying to  
understand the difference between the D7 "TNC" and "TNC packet" modes  
of operation.
