Most folks that really get serious about packet data even give up the
fussy sound cards and go with real TNC's. The Kenwood TNC doesn't work
because it has a slow cpu and no buffer. Give it more then one packet
of 80 or so bytes at a time and it has a serious case of data indigestion.

Check on the bottom of this page for more on the Kenwoods.

Kenwood is announcing a new radio at DCC (you're all going - right?
http://tapr.org/dcc.html ) and rumor has it that they know of the D700's
shortcomings and are working to fix that. Maybe that's what's being
announced. It's about time we get a real 9600 (or better) plug and play
data radio. It would sure break open the amateur radio datacomm world.
