Firenet is, as I understand it, a separate APRS internet system.  
There's absolutely nothing wrong with setting up an APRS server to 
gateway this data to interested parties (who show interest by 
connecting to the dedicated "shipnet" server).

Before something like this would be tied to the "main" APRS-IS things 
like traffic bandwidth need to be discussed.
