I'm not using AOL's email software. This is originating from Mozilla
Thunderbird Ver 1.502 (current release) connecting to AOL's IMAP server
directly via a broadband connection. AOL's proprietary client software
isn't even running. I'm just using the email address.

[ For about two years now, it's been possible to AOL's proprietary
client and use "normal" external IMAP/POP3 email clients such as
Outlook, Eudora, Thunderbird, etc to connect to AOL's email services. ]

A previous post suggests that this may actually be a bug in Thunderbird.
