And can the registrars confirm that the email request came from the owner of
the call?  I can create a hotmail account with someone else's callsign in
about 2 minutes.

Not trying to start a fight, I'm just pointing out that there's only so much
that can be done to stop non-hams.  I don't think there's anything at all
stopping unlicensed users of Xastir or any number of other clients, if it's
the APRS IS you're trying to protect.  I can't imagine that many non-hams
really being that interested in the application, but I'm not really in a
position to know.

I just brought up a random page in the UI-View list archives and nearly half
of the subjects were something like '2 1/2 months and no response to
registration request.'  Maybe that was just a fluke.

I came up with a technical solution to what I saw as a technical problem -
i.e., registration no longer being required but the program still wanting a
code.  You can take it or leave it.  I have no particular attachment to
UI-View and I'm not going to get my blood pressure up fighting over it.
