I've said many times the code for findU is not the difficult thing,
other than the parser it is almost trivial, the parser is a bit
difficult only because of the complexity of the APRS spec, but still
is hardly cutting edge science. Any half-way decent programmer could
duplicate it.
The hard part is having the system be reliable. For every hour I
spend on programming, I probably spend a hundred keeping the system
running. If nothing else, running a fully exposed, high powered Linux
machine on a fat pipe puts a big target on your back, staying on top
of security issues is a large amount of work. So, if you want to do
it by country, you need 20 or 30 people willing to invest that sort
of effort, which seems unlikely when I'm zero for three tries at
getting someone to invest the time to run the secondary server.
