Only if the IGate at the destination end is configured to gate messages,
or whatever, from the 'net to "local" stations it knows about.  It seems
often this is not the case, maybe by mistake, maybe by design, or the
op's don't realise what they need to setup?


Also...

high speed internet backbone? The internet is not only faster it's
(normally) more reliable."

Use of the Internet in many parts of the world is anything but reliable,
and is often very expensive in connection time, or data shifted per kB
costs.  Not everyone has access to cable,  DSL, or free local phone
call's.  In fact, most of the world pays through the proverbial nose for
public access telecom's.


No doubt another flame war is about to start.....
