In the fine print of the D7 brochure Kenwood say:
"Built-in 1200/9600bps TNC (1 packet, 1 frame, 256 bytes)
compliant with AX.25 protocol* " and the asterisk only seems to relate to mode
selection not requiring a PC.
I may be the only one who bought a Kenwood with no understanding that this
1-1-256 limit was different from what "real" TNCs do but I suspect a lot of the
Tasco modem arguments center around this little fact.
Does teh AX.25 protocol say anything about these limits? Or, is it just that
everything [sic] but APRS presumes rhe hardware will be more capable?
