[aprssig] Setting up a fill in digi

Hi All,
I plan on putting a station at my dad's QTH about a mile and a half
away from me so I get better coverage while mobile and at home. Right
now I've found 2 spots in my house where I can get into the local
wide. The problem with my dad's location is it's covered good for
mobiles in the area running 50 watts but not well for little 5 watt
stations or less running portable. The questions that I have are:
Should I have my dad run the station without RELAY capability and use
something else that wouldn't be compatable with the rest of the
network (E.G. his callsign)?
Now comes the new paradigm. Are we deleting RELAY as a part of the
path for general APRS use? I'm completely confused now on this issue.
The problem is my dad's station would fill in a mobile area that's
west of his QTH (away from the local WideN-n) and would be redundant
to the east. So some service would be provided but some duplicated
creating extra chatter. Extra chatter is what I'm trying to avoid.
The station is an omni 5 DBD gain commercial antenna at 80 feet above
ground in a nearly flat area so the coverage would be about 10 miles
around the station. The station can run up to 50 watts and will have
a band pass cavity as the commercial RF gets into most ham radios
here.
Thanks in advance for ideas and suggestions.
