New APRS path definition: TEMPn-N
This is a new concept for APRS portable and mobile digipeaters.
This idea was triggered in preparation for Field Day, but may
have general applications at other times:
The idea is that TEMPn-N can be a termporary path that
can be kept in most mobile D700's all the time without
any problems on 144.39, but for FD and for other special
applications, it can be used without then having to use a
PC every time to activate it! (UITRACE TEMP,20 can
only be activated or disabled with an attached PC. But
once activated, will remain so)...
USING A D700 FOR A PORTABLE DIGI: The D700 mobile
makes an excellent portable digi for Field Day, but to activate
the UITRACE parameter for FIELD DAY, you must use a
PC via the serial port and set UITRACE TEMP,20. The radio will
remember this. Normally, after Field Day, y ou would have to
reconnect the PC and disable UITRACE.
But why not keep this capability in reserve for anytime?
Remember, we do NOT WANT mobiles running around
on 144.39 with WIDEn-N enabled. And even setting
it temporarily is dangerous because it can easily be forgotten
and can make a mess of the network. But if we just
leave it as TEMPn-N and use it that way when we need
a temporry digi, then there is no danger when we QSY
back to 144.39.
Any reason why not?

Yes, lets do it right.
For that one day, everyone QSY to 145.01 and lets show
them how we can build a network instantly. See the
plan...

This is not a threat to 145.01. In most areas even if there
is a BBS there or a DX cluster, or some other service,
at most there might be 3 or 4 FD sites beaconing once
every 10 minutes for a total packet channel load of
about 0.005 which is totally inconsequential...
