Good things to know.
Navteq reindexed this region (specifically my county, I do believe
the rest of the state as well) themselves last year, so Delorme's
data is accurate now on both Topo USA 5 and SA2005. I'm hoping that
Tomtom 5, and Garmin's City Select NA v7 (whenever it comes out) will
also have the correct data.
Microsoft Streets and Trips 2005 is still the old data.
Delorme still does produce paper maps by the way, they're in my state
right down the interstate. They publish the Gazetteer for all 50
states, but used to only carry them for some states back in the
day. They are home to the worlds largest globe, Eartha, and they do
flyover mapping now too. A lot's changed from the days where they
had a little Map Store on US 1 in Freeport, Maine. :)
I think that the data should improve because Navteq has started using
alternative means. Supposedly ALK uses their own methods of mapping
as well for their Copilot and PC Miler 18-wheeler products. These
are all available for smart cell phone, PDA and laptop use, but not
exactly cheap.
Delorme REALLY needs a turn-by-turn mapping product though. If they
had an API and extensions to allow for APRS support, even better. I
did e-mail and mention this to them.
