That's a known problem with the GDAL library on Mac OSX.  Not an
Xastir problem as far as we know.  I think it only happens on the
OSX Tiger release, and has to do with changes in the GCC compiler.

One Xastir/MacOSX user is thinking about the problem and may submit
patches to the GDAL project team later.  If the GDAL team doesn't
get to it first.

BTW:  You can do this instead of removing the GDAL library:

    ./configure --without-gdal

That will cause Xastir to forget about it.
