[aprssig] Future Plans for New Radios with APRS support (Like the TM-D700A/TH-7)?

Hi all:
Are there any announcements (I'd even settle for some rumors) about
future plans for APRS-enabled radios similar to the current offerings
from Kenwood? Are the Kenwood TM-D700A and TH-7 really the only options
right now? I've played with some of the "kit" APRS trackers and the
like, and they're fine, but I do like some of the features the Kenwood
radios offer, not to mention the self-contained, cleaner setup.
Both the TM-D700A and the TH-7 are showing their age. Any rumors of
plans for upgraded models? Why haven't other manufacturers ventured
into the APRS arena (I think Alinco tried)?
Just curious. I'm thinking of spending some tax refund money on a new
rig and I'd hate to spring for 5-year old technology that I think is
over-priced ($500 and holding for the last 2-3 years? Come on!) I have
to think Kenwood or someone is going to market something new soon.
Thanks,
Chuck Milam
