[aprssig] digi's for events ?

I am doing some planning for the local MS Bike Tour this year. I would like to
use APRS to assist with keeping track of everyone at net control.

In doing this planning, I am looking at digi coverage. The entire route is
covered well with two repeaters, but there some areas which have very poor
digi coverage.

I was thinking that if I put digi's up at each of the checkpoints, they would
give pretty good coverage of the entire route.

I am looking to hear what other groups have done in similar situations. I
assume that groups use some digi's that are designed to be put up for a short
period, then taken with you for the next event.

Pointers to web sites where APRS use at such events are discussed would be
appreciated.

My big questions are:
1. What radio/tnc/antenna are you using for the digi's?
2. What radio/tnc/antenna are you using for the trackers?
3. How did your group acquire the equipment (i.e., did you get someone to
sponsor you, did the group buy the equipment, or do individual HAMS provide
equipment)?

Any information provided would be greatly appreciated!
