I've been around packet for years too:  Built first TNC in early
'85.  Did software decoding of AX.25 frames before that with an
XR-2211 chip and a single interrupt pin into a uP.  It's amazing
what you can do when you're a poor college student who can't afford
a TNC.  ;-)

The 2.0 spec calls out eight max,  New spec calls out two.  I went
and looked again just to make sure.  You can find both specs on the
'net with a google search.
