[aprssig] attn garmin rino folks

Droo,
The FRS/GMRS channels, 462.5500 - 462.7250 MHz (channels 1 - 7 & 15 - 22)
are not amateur radio freqs. Legal use requires a GMRS license.

Wes,
According to this Garmin web page, http://www.garmin.com/products/rino130/ ,
2nd bullet, the FRS power on the Rino is 0.5 watt & the GMRS power is just 1
watt. The 13th bullet states that GPS locations are sent & received using
the FRS channels. FRS & GMRS share the interstitial channels 1 - 7. Were you
testing using those channels? Have you tried location transmissions using
channels 15 -22, the GMRS only channels? Is the web site info wrong?
Thanks! Ben, AA3XH

Hi Wes -

Not sure if this has been covered before, but can we operate on GMRS using
our HAM calls? I'd think so, but I wasn't sure.. I still hold WPTY784 for
GMRS, but I'd definitely not renew if I didn't have to, I got it before I
became a HAM.

I do realize a lot of people operate on GMRS without licenses. :)
