d/RS0ISS/W3ADO-1/PCSAT b/W3ADO-1/PCSAT-11/PCSAT-12 on any definable filter port ? en aprs.net.au 14580 

or 

xxxx on socal.aprs.net

This description is a little bit deceiving.  Port 10149 on aprs.net.au is a read-only port (note TX only on the status page).  What this means is that it only sends data to the client.  In this case, it has a predefined filter of "d/RS0ISS/W3ADO-1/PCSAT b/W3ADO-1/PCSAT-11/PCSAT-12"  Therefore it cannot accept data from the client so it tries to hint at this by only allowing unverified connections.

Try socal.aprs2.net port 10150 or any user defined filter port (14580 on most javAPRSSrvr servers).  Be sure to set UI-View to NOT gate to RF.
