WOW!.
Following the suggested Field Day plan posted on
http://www.ew.usna.edu/~bruninga/aprs/fd2005.html
My first thought is that your Balloon Digipeater should
act like a FIRST HOP only digi to minimize problems.
It would have:
ALIASES of RELAY and WIDE1-1
UIFLOOD would be OFF
UITRACE would be OFF
Which would be the plan if it operated on 144.39.
But it wont. It will be on 145.01 and so it can be
used as an intermediate hop between DX hops at
either ends of Field Day only links. In that case
Settings for the digi would be
ALIASES of RELAY
UIFLOOD to support WIDEn-N with ID on
UITRACE to support TEMPn-N
Since all FD users on 145.01 will be using the path
of TEMPn-N, this gives full tracing to packets for
all Field Day operations on this temporary
frequency. THe only reason RELAY and WIDEn-N
are in there are for people who never got the
word on using the TEMPn-N path.
If you wonder why TEMPn-N is the proposed
Field Day path, its because we may as well
have this PERMANENTLY in all D700 radios which
may be called on at any time to be digipeaters
at events. Since it takes a PC to switch
UITRACE n-N digipeating on and off in D700's
and since having it ON on 144.39 at other times
is such a nuisance to normal operations, then,
by making it NOT be WIDEn-n or SSn-n, then it
can be left on all the time, but at any time anyone
needs to use a D700 as a digi anywhere, then
it is always active, not just Field Day!
If this is confusing to anyone, please read the
above web page plan...
