I'd have to say that Wyoming here gets at least as cold, if not colder
than Northern Il (elevation ya know). I've never removed any of my
radios from any vehicle parked outside during any season. Sometimes upto
weeks at a time before those vehicles are started again and warmed up.

These'd include Kenwood TM-V7As, Radio Shack HTX-242s, Several different
Uniden Scanners, a Toshiba B&W LCD laptop, a couple color LCD laptops of
various makes, etc, etc, etc...

Only thing you may notice, when the displays are cold: contrast goes
down, they're slower to react to voltage changes - your rapidly scanning
numbers may simply appear as either blank or '8'.

Longterm damage? I ain't seen none after almost 10 years, yet....
